Safe & Sound

Amongst student teaching and my two online TEFL courses (the frankly annoying schedule changes that the TEFL Institute made at the last minute is a story for another time), I finally have a few moments to log an entry.

The First Shipment

So I just realized I didn't post here that I passed the interview stage. Surprise! I passed!

I just got back from the UPS store where I finally let go of the documents I have been collecting over the past few months. I feel like I just sent a small child of mine off to school for the first time, or waved Bon Voyage to a little ship I lovingly built as it set sail into the big blue on its maiden voyage.

Well, it is now out of my hands and I can only hope I checked off everything just right like I was supposed to. It's a strange feeling because the ball is finally fully in EPIK's court. Now it is time to focus on my TEFL course, finishing out my internship year, and preparing for the many adventures my summer will hold.

My old roommate's roommate told me something very wise yesterday: all things in life are adventures. Some are messes that we get ourselves into and others are spectacular opportunities for growth. As long as we look at all of them as adventures, we can live a fulfilling life no matter the actual circumstances.

I think that's a good way to begin the next chapter - the next adventure - of my life.

Post-Interview a.k.a. I Talked to Someone in the Future

It is finished! Whew! I've been jittery and bumbling around all day, full of nervous energy and I am so glad that it is done. My interviewer was very nice. Hopefully I didn't make too much of a fool of myself (I always feel like I do). I'll find out the results in 2-3 days and then it will just be a matter of getting my hands on the final few documents I need.

Anyway, the coolest thing about the interview was that I talked to someone tomorrow. As in, it was Tuesday there and Monday here, so I was talking to someone in my future. How crazy is that? Time (for all of its continuous traveling forward) and the rotation of the earth are really cool.

Pre-Interview

Well, the interview is tonight. I'm pretty nervous, partially because there have been a number of statements from North Korea recently and I'm not so sure about going over there anymore... I don't know how long you have to accept or deny if I get the okay, but I really kind of want to wait this out to see where N. Korea is going. I guess my sense of self-preservation is definitely stronger than my desire to go, perhaps because if I'm alive, I can go later if I so choose. This may make it a little more difficult to be enthusiastic during the interview. I'll keep praying for a sign about my decision!
